SANY Reopening Plan

As Science Academies of New York (SANY) plans for the 2020-21 school year, we know that we must be prepared to provide the excellent education that our community expects. In the midst of the unknowns of COVID-19 and guidance from the New York State Education Department (NYSED) on the requirements to reopen schools this fall, SANY's top priority has and always will be the safety and well-being of our students, families and staff.

SANY is committed to opening school for in-person instruction with guidelines that prioritize public health and that protect our students and staff to the greatest extent possible. While we strongly believe that in-person learning and connection is most beneficial for the vast majority of students, we have streamlined our process and dedicated ourselves to ensuring that an online education experience will be as successful for those students who do not yet feel comfortable coming to school in person.

While we are planning for these two different instructional environments, please know that adjustments may be necessary throughout the coming school year. Our in-person plans are contingent upon health and safety concerns and transportation from the school districts. It will be our commitment to keep the community informed of those changes and updates.

All students in grades K-7 in Syracuse and grades K-8 in Utica will have both hybrid and full-time online education options. Students in grades 8-12 in Syracuse and grades 9-12 in Utica will have only full-time online education opportunities.

SANY will offer to all ELL and Special Education students in grades K-12 to attend hybrid learning 4-days per week. We will periodically reassess the effectiveness of online instruction for all students in order to maximize learning. We may make adjustments to students' learning model (online or hybrid) by reassigning students to increase in-person learning opportunities based on their individual learning needs and CDC guidelines.

Please review comprehensive information for each option on the corresponding pages below. Parents and guardians are asked to make their selections by Friday, August 14 in order to help the district prepare for the upcoming school year.

Option #1: Full-time online education model is for students in grades K-7 in Syracuse and K-8 in Utica. Click here to learn more about Full-Time Online Education Model.
